Mr Peter Meagher

Education

Mr Meagher attended Secondary School in Gonzaga College Dublin then studied Medicine, graduating from The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) in 1989. He did his basic surgical training in Dublin qualifying as a General Surgeon in 1993 and was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (FRCSI).
He commenced his Plastic Surgery training in Dublin at St James’ Hospital and Our Lady’s Hospital for Sick Children prior to moving to London where he completed a six year plastic surgery training programme in the Pan Thames Training Scheme at Guy’s and St Thomas’s Hospital, Queen Mary’s University Hospital, Roehampton, and St George’s University Hospital in London. During this time he also studied under Prof Angus McGrouther at University College London and was awarded an MSc in Surgical Science (MSc) in 1997.
He completed his Higher Surgical Training in June 1999 and was awarded a Fellowship of the Plastic Surgery Division of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS Plast).
Mr Meagher then spent two years at the prestigious Bernard O’Brien Institute of Microsurgery in Melbourne with Professor Wayne Morrison graduating as a Fellow in Microsurgery in June 2001.

Consultant Posts Held

In July 2001 he was appointed as a Consultant Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeon and Honorary Senior Lecturer at St George’s University Hospital, London.

In July 2007, Mr Meagher returned to Dublin and was appointed as a Consultant Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeon at St James’s Hospital where he was Director of The National Burns Unit and St Vincent’s University Hospital.

Current Consultant Post

Mr Meagher is currently a Consultant Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeon at Beacon Hospital in Dublin where he is Chairman of the Department of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery and a member of the Medical Board. He also practices at St Vincent’s Private Hospital, Blackrock Clinic and Aut Even Hospital in Kilkenny.

Teaching & Training

Mr Meagher is heavily committed to the teaching and training of junior doctors and nurses who have an interest in plastic surgery and has recently been appointed as an Associate Professor at The UCD School of Medicine.

Procedures Performed

Mr Meagher has extensive experience in the entire range of plastic & reconstructive surgical procedures and has a specialist interest in hand surgery, skin cancer, the management of scarring, and all aesthetic procedures including breast reduction/uplift, abdominoplasty, liposuction, face/neck lift, blepharoplasty (eyelid) surgery, rhinoplasty (nasal) surgery and otoplasty (ear) surgery.

Medico-legal Practice

He also has extensive medico legal experience and has been involved as an expert witness in a number of Fitness to Practise hearings (FTP) on behalf on The Medical Council of Ireland.
